Augmented Reality (AR) in vision achieves the superposition of digital content onto real-world visual data, through the well-understood see-through principle. A hypothetical feel-through wearable device within the haptic domain should facilitate modifications of the tactile experience, ensuring that the physical objects' cutaneous perception remains undistorted. From what we understand, substantial progress in effectively deploying a comparable technology is required. Through a novel feel-through wearable that utilizes a thin fabric as its interaction surface, we introduce in this study a method enabling, for the first time, the modulation of perceived softness in real-world objects. The device's interaction with physical objects permits a modulation of the contact area on the fingerpad without changing the force the user experiences, thereby changing the perceived tactile softness. The system's lifting mechanism, in pursuit of this objective, distorts the fabric surrounding the fingerpad in a manner analogous to the pressure exerted on the subject of investigation. Simultaneously, the fabric's stretch is managed to maintain a loose connection with the fingertip. The lifting mechanism's control was crucial in demonstrating the ability to generate distinct softness perceptions for the same specimens.
Intelligent robotic manipulation, a demanding area of study, falls within the broad scope of machine intelligence. While numerous adept robotic hands have been engineered to aid or supplant human hands in diverse tasks, the method of instructing them in nimble manipulations akin to human dexterity remains a significant hurdle. The procedure of feature-based point cloud registration is fundamentally dependent on the successful removal of outliers. This paper re-examines the model generation and selection within the classical RANSAC framework for the swift and robust alignment of point clouds. Within the model generation framework, we introduce a second-order spatial compatibility (SC 2) measure for assessing the similarity of correspondences. In contrast to local consistency, the model gives precedence to global compatibility, which enhances the distinction between inliers and outliers during the initial clustering stages. By employing fewer samplings, the proposed measure pledges to discover a defined number of consensus sets, free from outliers, thereby improving the efficiency of model creation. To select the best-performing models, we introduce FS-TCD, a novel metric based on the Truncated Chamfer Distance, taking into account the Feature and Spatial consistency of generated models. Ensuring the correct model's selection, the system concurrently evaluates alignment quality, the accuracy of feature matching, and the spatial consistency criterion. This is possible even with a tremendously low inlier rate in the proposed correspondence set. A substantial volume of experiments is undertaken to evaluate the effectiveness of our methodology. We also provide empirical evidence that the SC 2 measure and FS-TCD metric are applicable in a general sense and readily integrate into deep learning-based systems. We offer an end-to-end solution for accurately locating objects in scenes with missing parts. Our target is to pinpoint an object's location in an unexplored region, utilizing only a partial 3D scan of the scene’s environment. Few-shot learning endeavors to identify novel inquiries using a restricted set of example data, by drawing upon fundamental knowledge. This recent progress in this area necessitates the assumption that base knowledge and fresh query samples originate from equivalent domains, a precondition infrequently met in practical application. In relation to this concern, we propose an approach for tackling the cross-domain few-shot learning problem, featuring a significant scarcity of samples in the target domains. Given this realistic context, we concentrate on the swift adaptation capabilities of meta-learners using a dual adaptive representation alignment technique. A prototypical feature alignment is initially introduced in our approach to recalibrate support instances as prototypes. A subsequent differentiable closed-form solution then reprojects these prototypes. Feature spaces representing learned knowledge can be reshaped into query spaces through the adaptable application of cross-instance and cross-prototype relations. Complementing feature alignment, a normalized distribution alignment module is introduced, exploiting prior statistics of query samples to resolve covariant shifts between support and query samples. A progressive meta-learning structure, built upon these two modules, allows for fast adaptation with minimal training examples, maintaining its generalizability. Empirical findings underscore that our solution achieves state-of-the-art outcomes on four CDFSL benchmarks and four fine-grained cross-domain benchmarks.
Software-defined networking (SDN) empowers cloud data centers with a centralized and adaptable control paradigm. A cost-effective, yet sufficient, processing capacity is frequently achieved by deploying a flexible network of distributed SDN controllers. This, however, creates a new obstacle: request dispatching among controllers, accomplished by SDN switches. A comprehensive dispatching policy for each switch is necessary to control the way requests are routed. Policies presently in place are conceived on the basis of certain assumptions, namely a singular, centralized agent, complete awareness of the global network structure, and a static quantity of controlling elements, which often prove unattainable in practical circumstances. MADRina, a multi-agent deep reinforcement learning method for request dispatching, is presented in this article to engineer policies with highly adaptable and effective dispatching behavior. We start by designing a multi-agent system, which addresses the limitation of relying on a centralized agent with complete global network knowledge. A deep neural network-based adaptive policy for request dispatching across a scalable set of controllers is proposed, secondarily. We introduce a new algorithm in the third stage, designed to train adaptive policies within a multi-agent system. This work details a complete and adaptable wireless electrophysiology system, weDAQ, suitable for in-ear EEG and other on-body applications. It incorporates user-programmable dry contact electrodes that utilize standard printed circuit boards (PCBs). A driven right leg (DRL), a 3-axis accelerometer, and 16 recording channels, along with local storage and versatile data transmission methods, are provided in each weDAQ device. The weDAQ wireless interface, using the 802.11n WiFi protocol, supports the deployment of a body area network (BAN) that collects and combines biosignal streams from numerous concurrently worn devices. Each channel boasts the ability to resolve biopotentials across a range of five orders of magnitude, coupled with a 1000 Hz bandwidth noise level of 0.52 Vrms. This is complemented by a high peak SNDR of 119 dB and an equally impressive CMRR of 111 dB, all achieved at 2 ksps.
